New signing Hakeeb Adelakun capped his first run-out in Rovers colours with a goal in a 1-0 friendly win at Harrogate Town.
A day after completing his loan move from Lincoln City, Adelakun produced an accomplished finish midway through the second half of a useful behind-closed-doors outing at the Envirovent Stadium.
The game also saw Richard Wood, James Maxwell and Jon Taylor pick up valuable match minutes in their recoveries from injury.
Maxwell drew an awkward save from former Rovers keeper Jonathan Mitchell with the game’s first effort on target.
Adelakun made an impressive recovery run to block a low ball into the box from Jeremy Sivi and prevent the hosts from capitalise on a rapid breakaway.
Sivi was a threat for Harrogate and intercepted a pass at the back before sliding the ball through to Josh March who drew an excellent fingertip save from Ben Bottomley.
Rovers posed the greater attacking threat for the remainder of the half but largely struck efforts from distance, with Harrison Biggins, Taylor and Adelakun all trying their luck.
Biggins raced onto a loose ball and fired first time, drawing a good reaction save from Mitchell, who claimed at the second attempt.
And Maxwell powered an effort into the sidenetting from the corner of the box.
Adelakun opened a more even second half with a strike from 25 yards that Mitchell dealt with.
Bottomley made an excellent save from March, pushing a shot onto the post before blocking a close-range header from the subsequent corner.
Maxwell was agonisingly close to giving Rovers the lead when he met a zinging cross from Taylor in front of goal but Mitchell blocked.
Billy Waters lashed a shot off the crossbar after being slid into the box by Biggins as the hour mark approached.
Tom Anderson made a vital block to deny Sivi before Bottomley made a smart save from Levi Sutton from the resulting corner.
Rovers took the lead on 69 minutes. Biggins sent a pass through the lines for Adelakun, who clipped a shot beyond Mitchell into the far corner.
Harrogate looked to have found a leveller ten minutes from time when Sivi slotted into the bottom corner but the flag was up for offside.
Will Flint drew a fingertip save from Mitchell after an excellent link-up with scholar Kenneth Imariagbe.
