McCann frustrated by consistent mistakes

Grant McCann was left frustrated as familiar issues proved costly for Rovers in the defeat at Harrogate Town.

McCann pointed the finger at allowing opposition players to cut inside for the goals that Rovers conceded in the 3-1 loss and demanded his team take on board the instructions he has consistently given since the summer.

“It was harsh I felt and the scoreline probably doesn’t tell the picture of the whole game,” he said. “We had a slow start over the first 15 or 20 minutes and they had a lot of the ball.

“But we’re simply not learning or taking in information about keeping people outside of us. We let Folarin come in and he side-foots it into the corner.

“We got ourselves back into the game with a good finish from Tommy Rowe and from that moment on we probably controlled the rest of the first half. We were really dominant in terms of how we played.

“We didn’t have enough efforts at their goal but the play was good. We started quite bright in the second half and had numerous chances to score.

“We don’t score and then we let them inside the pitch again for the second goal. The third one was a carbon copy of a third, where we let Odoh inside the pitch.

“The players need to understand this. It’s happened from pre-season. The principles and how we work - we keep people on the outside of us.

“We need to make sure we understand the principles of how we play. I’m not at the stage where the players don’t know how I work.

“I said to them in the changing room ‘if you can’t do what we’re asking you to do, come and speak to us.’ We’ll try to help them as we have done all season but ultimately it’s hurting us as a team. It’s hurting the club and the fans so we need to have a rethink about it.”
