Professional development phase coach Frank Sinclair was impressed with the performance levels throughout Rovers U18s victory over Lincoln City.
Kenneth Imariagbe and Sam Straughan-Brown grabbed the all important goals on the Eco-Power Stadium 3G as the youth team moved up into eighth place in the EFL Youth Alliance League.
Sinclair said: “The performance from defence was solid and we made it difficult for the opposition to get through us. We played some good football at times at both ends of the pitch and caused them some real problems with some willing runners.
“The willingness to win individual races from box-to-box was the most important thing for me though whether that be landing knock downs or trying to get in the opposition box.
“Ultimately it was a really good team performance and everyone who played their part really effected the game and it was good that we had some of the first-team staff down watching the lads."
Rovers’ goals were both scored by first-year scholars Sam Straughan-Brown and Kenneth Imariagbe and Sinclair felt the youngsters were getting rewarded for their fine work so far.
He added: “Both goals are really good and Sam’s especially is a reward for all the unselfish work that he does for the team from midfield. His goal comes from us dealing with the pressure that Lincoln were really putting on us.
“Kenny obviously scored against them at their place so it was great to see him get his rewards again. Again, his unselfish running really helped us and he got what he deserved in the end so we’re pleased with him.
“Each and every individual is working hard though every day to get better and to know that I can pick a team and they’ll be able to compete with a side like Lincoln is really pleasing.”
