Professional development phase coach Frank Sinclair was left delighted with his side as they ran out 3-1 winners against Notts County in the EFL Youth Alliance League.

First-year scholar Sam Straughan-Brown scored all three goals for Rovers U18s on the Eco-Power Stadium 3G as they made it back-to-back league wins.

Sinclair said: "There were so many pleasing individual performances and I could praise every single one of them. The gaffer and Cliff were there to watch too which I think will have done no harm to a few of them.

“We really hurt them when we were more energised but when you consider we also had one U16 and one U15 in the squad, I’m really happy with what we’ve shown.

“It was extra special though because of the result last time and I could really feel the extra fire in the lads to get the win. We remembered how they celebrated last time out and I think that steely bit of determination was really good from us and we’re really pleased to have got the win.”

Having scored a hat-trick a week after his first scholarship goal, Sinclair was happy to see Straughan-Brown acting on his feedback.

He added: “Sam was the shining light on the performance with the goals and he’s smiling from ear-to-ear.

“He’s gone from not scoring any goals as a scholar, to getting four in two games. We spoke about can he add goals to his game only last week and he’s ended up getting right on track with that added focus so we’re really happy for him.

“There’s definitely goals in him so we’ll push for that and we’ll give him the freedom to do it but he also knows he’s got a job to do for the team.”
