Chequered Flag Motorsport drives into 100Club

An organisation that gives people living with physical and neurological disabilities the chance to experience the thrill of motorsport is a new addition to 100Club.

The incredible not-for-profit organisation Chequered Flag Motorsport organises events and schemes to help those individuals gain more opportunities, participate in rehabilitation activities and improve their overall wellbeing.

Past events have included getting behind the wheel of a race car and touring Red Bull’s F1 factory in Milton Keynes. Activities planned for the months ahead include a visit to the home of British F1, Silverstone, hosted by Porsche including the chance to sample laps of the famous track in a Porsche 911 GT3.

The visits are attended by a wide range of people, including ex-servicemen suffering from PTSD, amputees, stroke survivors, those living with a neurological disability, and those struggling with their mental health.

Chequered Flag Motorsport was set up in 2020 by Gary Booth, who turned to his passion for motorsport after suffering a stroke himself. Realising its potential as part of the rehabilitation process, he launched the organisation as a not for profit Community Interest Company.

Gary said: “As a 30-year stroke survivor myself, I am only too aware of the lack of awareness, understanding and challenges faced by stroke survivors, especially when it comes to the long-term neurological impact.

“Many survivors I spoke to felt that the traditional stroke charities did not meet their needs, so I was inspired to do something different. As time went by and I spoke with more people, it became clear that we were serving the wider neurological community - not just stroke survivors, but also those with autism, dementia, PTSD, those struggling with their general mental health, and much more.

“We use motorsport as the conduit to put people in inspirational environments, which enables them to speak freely about their own issues, problems and successes, with others in a similar situation.

“The work that we do is very important and, in some cases, can be life changing.”

Chequered Flag Motorsport is a perfect example of an organisation that is transforming lives and providing a space for those living with a range of conditions to form vital support networks with likeminded people.
