Nixon convinced he'll progress with Rovers

Tom Nixon is convinced that Rovers is the perfect place to continue his development after signing a three-year contract with the club.

The 21-year-old - who spent last season on loan at the Eco-Power Stadium - has switched permanently to DN4 after an undisclosed fee was paid to the Tigers.

Nixon made 32 appearances for Rovers last term and felt he progressed in leaps and bounds during that time.

"I felt like I developed loads last season in just one season," Nixon said. "With signing this deal, hopefully I can progress even more.

"They've shown the faith in me with a long-term deal. That's massive and hopefully I can reward them by showing what I can do on the pitch."

Nixon did not feature in as many matches towards the end of the season as he did in the first half but he has no question over manager Grant McCann's faith in both his ability and potential.

He said: "I played a good amount of games last season and I know the gaffer has got trust in me. We'll just have to see how the season pans out. The competition for places is really strong and I have to rise to that challenge. It will bring me on.

"The gaffer put the trust in me last season to play multiple positions.

"Everything about the club is just unbelievable and I loved it last season.

"The opportunity came to come back and I think I'd be stupid to say no with the direction the club is heading.

"You saw the really good finish to the season and I think we can definitely continue of that with what the gaffer and Cliff have got going on. It's just the start of it.

"Hopefully we can just continue where we left off last season and just kick on."

The full back says the opportunity to reunite with his teammates from last season was also too good to turn down.

"Everyone in that changing room is just top quality'" he said. "It is a really good group and "I'm really looking forward to being part of it even longer. I feel we're only going to progress from here and really kick on.

"The calibre of player that we've brought in so far has been really really good and it can only make the squad stronger.

"I've had a good break and a nice little golfing trip and now I just really want to kick on and get back in there."
