James Maxwell insists there was no dramatic change that helped spark Rovers’ brilliant run of form and feels the consistency of the coaching staff’s approach is finally bearing fruit.
Rovers beat Forest Green to extend the run to one defeat in ten league matches - their best for three years - and see them powering towards the end of the campaign after an inconsistent first few months.
“This season, we’ve not been overly high or low, even though there has been quite a few lows along the way,” he said.
“We’ve never panicked or had crisis meetings or anything like that. We’ve just stayed level-headed.
“Around the training ground, it’s a bit more positive because we’re on a good run now but nothing has changed in terms of our work and what we’re doing.
“I think it’s been a good thing for us - having that consistent message throughout the full season.
“Luckily it’s coming to fruition.
“Consistency of the team, building relationships and seeing similar pictures in each game has really helped. Having mostly everyone fit has been big for us.”
Maxwell was pleased that patience paid off for Rovers against Forest Green.
Rovers dominated the ball during the first half but struggled to break down the stubborn visitors before Luke Molyneux netted just after the hour mark.
Maxwell said: “We knew it was going to be a tough game.
“I’ve been in their situation where you’re fighting and scrapping for everything. Every game is the same where you sit in a low block and try to get something on the counter.
“We were well aware of that and they still had a couple of moments where they could have broken on us.
“All in all from us I think it was job done.
“The manager wasn’t happy with how the first half went but the message was to play a bit quicker. We did that in the second half and in the end our quality told.”
