McCann heaps praise on 'magic' Adelakun

Grant McCann insists the key to Hakeeb Adelakun’s success at Rovers has been giving him the freedom to play his game.

Adelakun netted his sixth goal in 12 appearances for Rovers with a stunning solo effort in the impressive win over on-form Crawley Town.

And manager McCann says the 27-year-old has been ‘let off the leash’ since joining on loan from Lincoln City.

“It was a bit of magic from Haks again - an unbelievable finish,” McCann said. “We were initially calling for a foul because we felt he’d been pulled back but he’s just danced around him and stuck the ball in the top corner.

“He’s got serious ability and everyone has seen that since he’s been here.

“All we have done is unleash his talent and let him go and play his game, be free and create things.

“He’s really enjoying it. He’s playing with a smile on his face and I’m really pleased for him.

“I felt the game was going to take a bit of magic from one of the teams. Fortunately it was us that got it.”

McCann also praised substitute Maxime Biamou, who secured Rovers’ win with the second goal deep into added time, after spurning the opportunity to do so earlier when one-on-one with Crawley keeper Corey Addai - as did George Broadbent.

He said: “What was really pleasing was Max missed that chance but then chased Addai down and got his next bit. That shows real character.

“I was really disappointed for George. He’s going to be a very good player for this football club. I felt he should have squared to Max but I can’t fault anyone in what was a good win.”
