Grant McCann has praised defensive duo Richard Wood and Tom Anderson for the part they have played in Rovers’ recent positive form.
Captain Wood returned from injury last month and has formed a strong partnership in the heart of defence with Anderson, who has forced his way back into the team.
Speaking ahead of the trip to Walsall in Sky Bet League Two, manager McCann praised their professionalism and the importance of their experience in the side.
“I think it’s been really pleasing,” he said. “They’ve got really good experience and know-how between them.
“It’s been a real plus point for us in the last three or four games for us, especially with those two and long may it continue.
“There’s a saying that you can’t buy experience and that is what it says on the tin. They’re two lads who know their bodies, they know their games, their strengths and the areas they might not be the best at.
“They maximise everything they have, every single day when you see them. They know when to step off things or step out of a session if they need.
“I give them that trust to do that and they are two tremendous professionals.
“I know Tom a little bit more than Woody but working with him before and even still now, you can see the high demands he puts on himself with how he works and how he trains.
“And Woody is no different. I’m just disappointed that we lost him for a chunk of the season because of injury that just didn’t go away. He’s been frustrated with that as well.
“It’s great to see them both fit and firing and hopefully we can manage them through to the end of the season.”
