The U18s played out a goalless draw at Bradford City in the EFL Youth Alliance League.

Frank Sinclair’s side came closest to breaking the deadlock in West Yorkshire when Sam Straughan-Brown turned home from a corner only to see the goal disallowed for a foul.

Then point leaves the young Rovers side two points off the final Championship Merit League place with two games of the regular season remaining.

Justin Bennett was first to test the Bradford keeper after two minutes when Charlie Thompson played him into space on the edge of the box.

Will Green saw an effort blocked after cutting in from the left before Jacob Bacon was denied at point blank range by the Bradford keeper after latching onto a delivery to the far post.

Bradford crafted their first opportunity on 37 minutes with their winger dancing inside from the right only to fire just wide of the far post.

Bennett met a cross from Harry Wood on the stroke of half time but could only drop his header into the keeper’s hands.

Bradford produced their best chance of the game on 52 minutes but a brilliant recovery run from Bacon saw him divert the ball off target at the end of a quick counter attack for the hosts.

Straughan-Brown pounced onto a flick-on from Green on the penalty spot but saw the Bradford keeper push his effort away.

Jacob Bryant had little issue with dealing with a shot from the Bradford full back after a surging run from one end of the pitch to the other.

The best move of the game saw Rovers shift the ball at pace with one-touch play only for Green to be caught offside.

Jaiden Campbell-Ryce stung the palms of the Bradford keeper from the edge of the box before Straughan-Brown found the net only for the official to signal for a foul against Bacon.

Rovers keeper Jake Oram came to the rescue in the late stages as he denied the Bradford striker at his near post, helping to secure a point for the visitors.

Rovers head to St George’s Park on Friday, March 15 to face Burton Albion.
