Wood relished bodies-on-the-line demand in Crawley victory

30 March 2024

Richard Wood admitted enjoying putting his body on the line to ensure Rovers emerged from their Good Friday clash with Crawley Town with all three points.

The skipper made a series of excellent blocks in a fantastic team effort as Rovers triumphed 2-0, despite playing the final 24 minutes with ten men following the dismissal of Tom Anderson.

“I really enjoyed it,” Wood said. “That’s what I pride myself of - throwing my body in front of everything.

“I think we’ve been really solid in the last few weeks defensively and it’s been a pleasure to play alongside everyone.

“Everyone has been so switched on and confidence and results help with that.

“We just need to stay switched on and see what happens.

“We’ve just got to keep playing. We’ve got something to carry on a keep momentum going and keep the unbeaten run going.”

The victory was a fourth consecutive one for Rovers, who have suffered just one defeat in their last 11 matches.

“It was an impressive away performance,” Wood said. “Momentum is definitely with us.

“It could have been more. We had some good chances that we didn’t take. We got there at the end which was a relief for everyone.

“We’re in a good place.”
