Dean Confirms McCombe Deal

11 August 2012

Manager Dean Saunders has today confirmed the signing of centre-back Jamie McCombe,

subject to paperwork. McCombe, who started his career with Scunthorpe United, has signed a 2 year deal with the option for extras.

Making his debut for the Iron in a Football League Trophy match against Darlington, Jamie started in best possible fashion keeping a clean sheet and topped his performance with the final goal in the 3-0 victory.

After making 17 appearances, he was named ‘Young Player of the Year’ and attracted interest from higher placed clubs.

During the 2002-03 season Jamie helped Scunthorpe reach the play-off before joining Lincoln City the following season, where he enjoyed two successful seasons.

A number of impressive performances from the 6’5” Yorkshireman led to a move to Bristol City. Making his debut against former side Scunthorpe, McCombe went on to become an important part of a promotion winning side winning the club’s ‘Player of the Season’.

He made over 30 Championship appearances as City narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League at the first time of asking. His four year stay at Ashton Gate came to an end when manager Steve Coppell revealed he was not part of his plan.

Huddersfield Town manager Lee Clark moved swiftly to add the commanding centre-half to his highly fancied squad.  In his two seasons with the Terriers Jamie made 54 appearances scoring eight goals along the way.

After having his contract at Huddersfield Town cancelled by mutual consent, Jamie became Dean Saunders latest edition to the Rovers squad.
