REPORT: Doncaster Rovers Youth 2 – 1 Besiktas FC

16 July 2014

Future Rovers stars continue winning ways in Sweden.

Doncaster Rovers under 18s have continued their winning ways in the Gothia Cup beating Turkish side Besiktas FC 2-1.

Another great performance from Jack McKay ensured Paul Stancliffe’s boys made it through to the quarter finals of the tournament and topped the group with a game still left to play.

Paul Wilson said it was a “great effort” from everyone involved and was pleased with the teams determination.

Rovers chances were limited in the first half, with Matty Davies having the only chance of the game. They trailed 1-0 at half time to the Turkish side.

The Rovers boys came out fighting in the second half and it was Jack McKay who popped up again with a brace in front of goal.

Early on in the second half McKay had a shot cleared off the line and shortly after James Milner was brought down in the box for which Rovers were awarded a penalty.

Jack McKay stepped up and calmly put the ball past the keeper.

Later on in the half, the referee gave another penalty for what appeared to be a push on Rovers top goal scorer.

McKay had no trouble in scoring his second of the match, increasing his tally to three for the tournament.

The Youth Team’s second victory in two days guaranteed them a place in the quarter finals on Thursday against IF Elfsborg.
