Ian Lawlor is using the frustration of the shoulder injury which cut his 2018/19 season short to fire him up for the coming campaign.
The keeper missed the second part of the season but made a return to the matchday squad for the second leg of the Sky Bet League One play-off semi-final against Charlton Athletic.
Lawlor said: “That night at Charlton was disappointing, but for me personally it was nice to be back on the bench - just to travel down with the lads again was something I had been looking forward to. It has made me hungrier to succeed here.
“Coming back into the squad made the summer a little bit easier. I trained in full for two weeks’ before the season finished and kept up that work over the off-season.”
Lawlor is the most experienced of the two senior goalkeepers on the books, but is ready to be pushed for starting berth by Louis Jones.
The Irishman added: “We are both working hard for the No.1 jersey, no matter what happens. We’ve got a great coach in Paul Gerrard, he’s been there and done and we learn from him every day.
“But again I can take things from Louis that I see him do in training every day and might benefit me.”
