Goodman can't wait to get started at senior level with Rovers

19 May 2023

His summer break may only be a few days old but Jack Goodman cannot wait to get back into training with Rovers after signing his first professional contract.

The 18-year-old has committed his future to the club until the summer of 2025 following a breakout season at senior level which brought six first team appearances.

And with new manager Grant McCann in place, Goodman is champing at the bit to get back on the training ground.

“It’s just a relief and now I can just strive to impress the coaches,” he said. “I want to learn under Grant and Cliff so I’m really pleased to get this deal.

“I can’t wait to work with the new manager and show him what I’ve got.

“I just can’t wait to get back in for pre-season.”

Goodman secured his full league debut in a memorable final few weeks of the campaign, having passed the 20-goal mark for the U18.

And he believes his first team outings will stand him in good stead as he looks to kick on in the new season.

“It’s been very useful,” Goodman said. “In the off-season, I know what I need improve to break into the first team squad.

“The physicality has been one of the big ones but you can always improve on that, so it’s not a worry for me.

“There were quite a few memorable games - Walsall, Crewe, making my debut. It was tough but I felt I handled myself well and I know where I need to get better.

“I always love scoring goals and I just want to do that for the first team now.”
