Grant McCann spoke of his pride in his players as Rovers battled to a 2-2 draw which secured a play-off place.
Goals from Joe Ironside and Luke Molyneux had Rovers comfortable at the break before Thimothée Lo-Tutala was dismissed for handling outside the box.
Gillingham scored twice in six minutes to level the game but Rovers held on superbly to make sure of a top seven finish.
