Maxwell: We're really onto something - and I want to be part of it

James Maxwell feels Rovers are ‘really onto something’ and he was desperate to be a part of that by signing his new contract.

The 22-year-old has committed his future to the club until the summer of 2026 and says the progress made in the last couple of months has him excited about what is to come for Rovers.

“If you speak to everyone around the club, whether it’s players, staff or anyone around, they can feel it. There’s a real trust in the manager and his staff,” Maxwell said.

“I think he’s got a good relationship with the people upstairs who are ready to back him.

“Everyone has become aligned in that thinking and wanting the best for the football club. I feel like we’re really onto something.”

The full back has endured a frustrating time over the last 12 months with injury sidelining for much of the first half of this season before returning with a string of impressive performance since the start of last month.

He is determined to finish the campaign strongly, both individually and as a team.

“I’ve been happy with how I’ve played when I have been available,” he said. “It’s just been that I’ve not been able to string together more than seven or eight games at a time and kick on from there.

“It’s a big thing for me, especially over the nine games that are left and over the next two years.

“We want to take the momentum into next season and that can be really big for us.”

For Maxwell, the goals for the life of his new contract are simple.

“Promotion to League One,” he said. “No injuries and a few more personal achievements in terms of goals and assists.”
