DF relishes Carlisle clash

14 February 2017

Darren Ferguson is expecting an entertaining game when Rovers take on Carlisle United on Tuesday evening.

Rovers are unbeaten in 10 games so are full of confidence heading to take on the third-placed Cumbrians. After having to dig out a point at Newport County AFC on Friday night, Ferguson expects more expansive football at Brunton Park.

Ferguson said: “They are a very good team, certainly one of the best we have played this season at the Keepmoat Stadium.

“They are very open, expansive and attacking team so it should be a good game. It’s a big pitch with a good playing surface, it was a really good game here and I expect it will be on Tuesday night.”

Rovers’ goalscoring has grabbed the headlines this season, but Ferguson feels tightening up at the back is a key reason for the unbeaten run.

He said:” We’ve only conceded five goals in 10 games, which is very good. We feel if we keep clean sheets we’ll win games, as Friday is only the second time in the league this season we’ve not scored.

“Not losing games is a good habit to have. We know it’ll be a tough match, but it’ll be a tough match for Carlisle too.”
