Student life starts at Club Doncaster Sports College!

Club Doncaster Sports College opened its doors to the new 2016/17 students who have enjoyed their first taste of life studying at the Keepmoat Stadium this week.

Taking part in a variety of team building exercises to introduce them into student life, the group of more than 140 have kicked off their academic year with a selection of challenging and engaging tasks ahead of their busy year of work.

The college provides outstanding post 16 opportunities in partnership with Selby College, including Active IQ L2, which allows students to achieve a Gym Instructor and/or Personal Trainer status. A BTEC Level 3 course is also on offer to students, which creates a pathway into higher education or alternatively a Traineeship, which is a work experience programme based around Doncaster Rovers FC and its partners.

Students also have access to specialised extra-curricular sessions ran by ex pros and the opportunity to play overseas football as well as play at the Keepmoat Stadium itself - all on top of the vocational qualifications delivered by the highly experienced tutors.

With a pass rate of 100 per cent across the board last year, Club Doncaster Sports College have set the standards, completely surpassing the national pass rate. In addition, eight per cent of BTEC L3 Extended Diploma leavers last year were in the top 1.7 per cent in the country, which they hope to emulate with this year’s students.

Principle Adi Turnpenny said: “We are delighted to welcome students to the college for the new academic year and are looking forward to helping them achieve their potential.”

Alongside all education programmes, the College has five Academy teams which students can be involved with.

Academy Co-ordinator and former Rovers player, Tim Ryan runs the teams. He said: “We have four teams that compete across various levels including the National College League and new for this year we are delighted to be introducing a Women’s team. With current Dons player Connor Scott coaching the Dons Academy, the College have a great team outside the classroom too.”
