Mandeville return

20 January 2017

Assistant manager Gavin Strachan says Liam Mandeville is fit and raring to go ahead of the game against Crewe.

The forward has missed the last three fixtures with a thigh injury, having been in fine form before-hand with seven goals in eight league games.

Mandeville is looking fresh on the training ground according to Strachan, who was full of praise for the 19-year-old.

“In some ways the injury might have done him a favour. He played a lot of games in a short space of time which is something he hasn’t done before,” he said.

“He looks really lively and that gives the manager a nice problem.

“He’s taken on board the stuff we’ve tried to do with him, his self-belief and confidence is growing. It’s about maintaining that now.”

Looking to extend their unbeaten run at the Keepmoat Stadium, Rovers come up against a Crewe side with a new man in charge, as David Artell has replaced Steve Davis in the Gresty Road hot seat.

Despite being on an eight game winless run, Strachan says the Railwaymen will not be taken lightly.

“There’s a culture at Crewe and there always has been, they’ve got some very good technical footballers,” he added.

“They were unfortunate to lose against Luton last time out, they’ve got real quality in certain areas.

“We will have to be quite patient at times because they are very good on the ball, but we are on our own patch and it will be about what we can do.”
