Determined Doncaster Please Dickov

Gaffer upbeat following Dale turnaround.

Paul Dickov lauded his side’s persistence as Rovers came from behind to beat ten man Rochdale at Spotland.

Kyle Bennett levelled Matt Done’s opener before the latter was sent off early in the second stanza. Theo Robinson and Curtis Main scored late on to secure Rovers’ third successive win on the road.

“We got off to the worst possible start and then after that I thought the boys were fantastic,” Dickov began.

“Even when it was eleven against eleven we created as many chances as I can ever remember in any game and it would have been a crying shame if we hadn’t won the game.

“Strangely I had the feeling today, on the bench, that it was going to come. You can’t pepper a goal that much without one going in.”

Rovers were profligate in front of goal until the introduction of substitute Robinson who’s impact was instant and led Dickov to pay his troops a backhanded compliment: “I’ve got to give the players a lot of credit because when you’re missing that amount of chances and have that amount of possession you can easily think it’s not going to be your day and switch off a little bit but they had the bit between their teeth today,” he said.

“When teams go down to ten men, you get two banks of four and its difficult but we didn’t panic.

“We go on about consistency and how to turn things around but the Sheffield United defeat is our only loss in our last five games.”
