Dickov Hails Butler signing

23 October 2014

Paul Dickov has lauded new loan signing Andy Butler after the defender's arrival.

The Doncaster Rovers manager had called on an experienced head to shore up a leaky defence and bring leadership to the dressing room and the Scot feels Butler fits the bill.

“I’ve tried to sign Andy a few times over the last few years and he’s what we need at the minute,” said Dickov.

“He's a Doncaster lad who knows the league well. He’s a leader and an organiser.

“We’ve got good players in the team and we need to be a little bit louder with our communication on the pitch and someone like Andy can provide that.”

Rovers have conceded 11 goals in their last 6 league games – including a 3-0 defeat to Walsall where Butler was in opposition, on loan from Sheffield United.

“He's a loan player who’s played games recently and sometimes you get loans because they haven’t been playing games but, thankfully, that’s not the case with Andy and he’s ready to hit the ground running.

“He’s trained very well and he does what it says on the tin; heads, kicks, he’s a proper defender and it’s no secret that we’ve conceded too many goals recently. Orient had three shots on goal and we lost 2-0 so we need to tighten up.”
