Gaffer says that despite draw Rovers have built belief.
Darren Ferguson said that he felt for his players following Saturday’s 2-2 draw with League One leaders Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena.Rovers went behind twice, only for Nathan Tyson to respond each time and the visitors nearly took all three points when the experienced striker rattled the crossbar in injury time.
“I said to the players that I’m disappointed for them that they haven’t got three points – I thought we had them when Tyson hit the bar,” opened Ferguson.
“We gave as good as we got today I thought against a good team that’s going well.
“It was pleasing to see us come back twice because that’s not happened enough this season.
“We knew we would be a threat on the counter attack and some of our football was really good.
“I’m pleased with the performance but not overly so with the result but in saying that its against a good team.”
Ferguson was keen to stress the positives of matching the high flying Sky Blues though and said Rovers will continue their momentum in to the weekend’s cup tie against Cambridge United.
“The main thing I’ve seen is that they now believe in themselves and that’s the important difference,” said Ferguson.
“I believe in them and I keep stressing that we’re a good team. I think we’re a good team and we’ve shown that.
“We’ll go to Cambridge, it will be a cup tie where Shaun (Derry) has just gone in and he’ll have them at it so it will be difficult but the aim is to get through to the next round.
“Everyone knows that it’s a carrot and you could get a really good tie such as a Premier League club but there’s no distraction.
“We’ve got eight days between games and we’ll get some work in to them on the training ground.”
