1st year youth team player Ryan Dunlop scored ten minutes into the second half to give Rovers the lead and it proved enough to secure the win for the South Yorkshire side.

Rovers were knocked out of the quarter finals of the Gothia Cup in the cruelest way, losing a sudden death penalty shootout to Swedish team Elfsborg.

However, the win over Belgrade secured them the final position of fifth place with 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss over the course of the week.

Youth Team coach Paul Wilson said he was extremely proud of everyone’s efforts throughout the week.

“The lads have been a credit to the club both on and off the field. They have been fantastic all week.

“When you look at a club as big as Newcastle United who finished 11th, it shows how well the boys have done, we’re all proud of their efforts.”

The Youth team will return home this weekend to continue their preparations for the new season, which will kick off on Saturday 9th August away at Notts County. Paul Stancliffe’s side will be hoping to do one better than last season where they finished runners up in the North East Alliance League.
