Rovers To Support Doncaster Foodbank

28 October 2014

Special request from the Foodbank for help with certain produce which can be dropped off at the main reception

Doncaster Rovers Football Club has committed its support to acting as a vital Collection Point for the Doncaster Foodbank based at Christ Church, Thorne Road.

Please note that not all foodstuffs are appropriate for donation to the Foodbank. Below is a list of those provisions which are urgently required and are suitable:

Milk (UHT or powdered)
Tinned meat/fish   Tinned vegetables

Tinned fruit

The Foodbank is designed to help individuals and families in crisis through the provision of emergency food supplies. Local care professionals in Doncaster refer people with a food voucher to the Foodbank centre where they are provided with vital food supplies. In addition, they are given help to access the services of other professionals who can help them out of their crisis.

The Foodbank allows the general public to contribute towards and support local well-being in a simple, practical way. There are various Collection Points throughout the Doncaster area which receive donations and pass them to the appropriate branch of the Foodbank for distribution. Now, the Keepmoat Stadium wishes to play its part in acting as a Collection Point for food donations from supporters of Doncaster Rovers. Members of the public can drop off donations at the Keepmoat either at Main Reception during the week, and especially on match days at
Main Reception.

Gavin Baldwin: “It is a sad reflection of our times to learn that 1 in 5 persons in Doncaster is living below the poverty line. A sudden crisis in life can have catastrophic consequences for individuals and families. Such circumstances can result in members of our communities going hungry on a daily basis, with parents going without in order to feed their children. We can prevent this by helping those in need through our support of the Doncaster Foodbank. The football club regards it as part of our community responsibility to assist in whatever small way we can, and we have no reservations about setting up the stadium as a Collection Point”.

The club should like to serve as a Collection Point for a prolonged period of time, not just a one-off match day. Donations of the appropriate foodstuffs will be transported on a regular basis from the club to the Foodbank at Christ Church.

We should like to thank our supporters for their generosity in their donations for those in need.
