An upbeat Paul Dickov rebuffed claims from certain quarters of the media that it may be time for a change of manager.The Scot was addressing the press prior to the visit of local rivals Scunthorpe United on Sunday and instead positively outlined his vision for a summer of recruitment.
“I don’t think there will be a change in manager,” he said.
“The board have been really receptive to what I want to do next year and they’re fully behind me so I don’t think I should have to justify that.
“From our point of view, it will be great because there will be no excuses for anyone next year, including myself.”
Dickov also said that this summer is shaping up to be “a million miles” away from previous transitional periods that he has overseen at Keepmoat Stadium.
“It’s particularly good for myself, the board and the club and we can start planning whereas we haven’t done so in the last two summers,” he said.
“The board have been really receptive to what we want to do and it will be a million miles from last summer where eight days before the start of the season we had eight contracted players.
“I take criticism on the chin. I know fans aren’t happy that we aren’t winning games and I’m not happy either but I’m there to be shot at because I’m the manager.
Dickov’s side beat the Iron at Glanford Park in October and are aiming for a seventh straight win over the North Lincolnshire club.
He said: “We want to put it right, if we win on Sunday, we’ll be in the top half.
“It’s a local derby and the one thing we want to do is finish the season on a win and a victory at home, which have been few and far between this year.”
