PD: "Board has given go ahead"

30 December 2013

Doncaster manager Paul Dickov spoke to Rovers Player ahead of the January transfer window outlining his plans.

“We are trying to bring players in, there is no secret on that, the board have given me the go ahead to go and do that which is great.

“I’ve said all along, if we can bring players in who can improve us that we will definitely try and do that.  We want to get a bit of strength and depth and create competition for places.

“A lot of clubs want to get their own players in before they let players out, but that doesn’t mean we won’t try and do our business as quick as we can.

“The board have been fantastic, I spoke to Dick after the game and I’m always speaking to Gavin, we are looking to get the right players in for the right price”.

Dickov also spoke about Richie Wellens’ contract situation and believes there will be a positive outcome, whilst admitted he would like to again extend the loan of Manchester United striker Federico Macheda.

“I spoke to Richie this morning and his agent and we are hopeful that we can get it done.  Richie wants to stay, he has a big affection for the club and he is enjoying his football and all the signs are that we can get it sorted out.

“We are looking to bring Kiko back, he came in and started fantastically well, I think we have to remember sometimes that although he comes with a big reputation, he is only 22 and the injury possibly took more out of him than what we thought.”
