WHAT THE PAPERS SAY

22 December 2014

A quick round up of varying angles from Saturday's game against Swindon Town.

The Star - There will have been plenty of questions asked of just why the near 300 hardy souls would want to make at least a six hour round trip to watch their inconsistent side just five days before Christmas.
But Rovers helped to provide an emphatic answer for their loyal fans with a brilliant win over one of League One’s top sides.

Yorkshire Post - Doncaster Rovers’ manager Paul Dickov was full of praise for his side as they ended hosts Swindon Town’s four-match winning run.
Theo Robinson’s first-half penalty and Sam Johnstone’s save from a late spot-kick were the highlights.
But this was result was built upon a massive amount of hard work, mostly done from a back-foot position.

Swindon Advertiser -  FORGETTABLE is the fairest word to describe the end of Swindon Town’s hot streak at the feet of Doncaster Rovers.
It was a dire game that neither side deserved to get anything from.
A draw might have been a fair result but the contest merited no points.
A Theo Robinson penalty was enough for Doncaster to return to South Yorkshire with the win.

Wiltshire and Gloucestershire Standard - AN ailing Doncaster Rovers shocked high-flying Swindon Town 1-0 on Saturday after which home boss Mark Copper claimed to have been ‘pleased’ with the performance, writes Danny Hall.
Paulo di Canio would have reacted to the same display by cancelling the players’ Christmas.

The Guardian - For 40-odd years the Swindon fan has lived with his grandfather’s words: “It all goes wrong after Christmas.” After five successive wins, all against top-half clubs in League One, he could have felt Christmas had come early. Sadly it had. Even a draw at home to Doncaster Rovers would have taken them to the top, as Bristol City went down to Crewe, but they fluffed a penalty in the 80th minute, lost to one in the 26th and slipped to third behind MK Dons.
It was not altogether a surprise. Doncaster travel as dark horses not donkeys.

And how we reported it… - Game of two penalties sees Rovers hold their nerve and continue impressive away form.
