Donny Dog's Summer Adventures

I have had plenty to do again since we finished last season, here are some of my activities: -

4th May – Dons RLFC v Barrow Raiders, I enjoyed my afternoon with Vila and I even scored a conversion!  The Dons won 30-28 which was great.

24th May – I was at Lakeside Shopping Village helping promote the Superhero Spinathon in aid of Bluebell Wood on 21st June.

31st May – Cantley Carnival, it is good to be involved in these annual events.

7/8 June – I had a walk in Cantley Park and supported the Bessacarr Tournament.  It rained on the Saturday, but the teams did great and it was a very hot day on the Sunday.  Well done to all the teams involved.

12th June – World Cup started, spent a lot of time in my kennel with the games on to keep me entertained!

14th June – England lost to Italy, I was very sad on this day.

18th June – League fixtures released and first game we are away at Yeovil, I enjoyed my visit to Huish Park last season and would like to go again.

21st June – Lakeside Shopping Village in aid of Bluebell Wood, Superhero Spinathon.  I impressed everyone by taking part for almost 3hrs!  Special thanks to DCLT for their leadership and equipment.

13th July – Keepmoat Stadium, Rovers Foundation U7-U9’s tournament in aid of PCUK.  I even got a game myself in goal (saving penalties) with some of the kids waiting for their games to start.  I had lots of fun!

17th July – Town Centre at Subway on Baxtergate, to launch our partnership with them and I made a new friend ‘Subman’.  All Junior Rovers members can collect their free Subway membership card from main reception.

19th July – Rossington Summer Party in the Park – I was lucky enough to not get caught in the rain!  Disappointed that the weather had to change so much, but I am sure everyone had a great time.

20th July – Town Fields Gala – I took part in a mascot race against Donny Knight, a dolphin, a telephone and lots of other exciting characters.  I came 4th out of 8, sorry I did not win!  It was a very hot day and I enjoyed myself, I saw Cre8ive Dance Academy who are in partnership with our Education Foundation.

26th July – I was let out of my kennel to attend the Rovers Car Show.  The Monster Truck shows were good, but very loud.  I had lots of pictures taken and enjoyed the day.

27th July – Our first pre-season friendly at home to Sheffield Wednesday and we drew 2-2.  What a fantastic goal by Bennett!

The World Cup is a distant memory now; disappointed we did not go further. Congratulations to Germany and what a fantastic goal by Gotze!

My summer highlights:-

•    Scoring a conversion at The Dons v Barrow Raiders game AND a try!
•    Taking part in a superhero spinathon at Lakeside Village
•    Meeting 'Subman' at our new partner Subway
•    Seeing the Monster Truck show

I have also recently spent an evening in the Frenchgate Centre with two of my furry friends and Jess from Doncaster Belles.  We were visiting their new Sports Lounge which is absolutely brilliant and includes some great activities.

I am getting to be a regular at Lakeside Shopping Village; I went to see their new seaside area.  It is so relaxing, please go and have a look.

Donny Dog’s Away Day: Yeovil Town
I woke up early in excitement because the season was about to start, we were travelling down to Huish Park.  A long journey to Yeovil, but we took great support on the 450 mile round trip.  I was asked if I was going to the game by one of our exiles who lives in Cornwall and this was the nearest game for them to attend.  Cheryl was originally from Conisbrough, but moved down to Cornwall and was taking her son Billy (4months old) to his first match.  We arrived quite late due to traffic problems, but I was soon on the pitch with their mascot ‘Jolly Green Giant’.  I walked round and waved at the Yeovil supporters and then the teams came out and it felt amazing to be back.  I ran to our supporters where I was greeted with them chanting my name!  I sat with the fans and had my photo taken with young Billy and his mum.  It was not long before we scored and it was a fantastic finish by Curtis Main.  I jumped around amongst the fans and enjoyed the atmosphere.  We won the match 3-0, quality goals by Harry Forrester and Theo Robinson.   Having not a very good record against The Glovers in the past we were overjoyed and I even did a handstand on the pitch at the end of the game!  Special thanks to Paul Dickov for the picture with Billy, his mum said “something for Billy to be proud of when he gets older”.  I am hoping to have many more away days like this and thank you Yeovil Town for a memorable day.

Donny Dog’s Away Day: Colchester United
I went back down south to watch the red and white army play Colchester United.  I was given a very warm welcome and I met with their mascot Eddie the Eagle.  I followed him around the stadium to see everybody and I sat amongst our fans for the duration of the game.  It was another fantastic away day with a brilliant atmosphere.  I cannot thank the fans enough for making my experiences so memorable.  We were left very happy as we took all 3 points; Kyle Bennett scored the one and only goal.  I was looking forward to my next away day at Oakwell, but due to International duty we have players unavailable.  I will catch up with Toby Tyke soon and in the meantime I will see you all at the next game!
I was nominated for the ice bucket challenge by my furry friend Peter Burrow at Peterborough United.  I completed the challenge on the pitch at half time on Sunday 31st August at The Dons v Halifax match with Vila.  Thank you to everyone who attended the game and supported us.  It was a great result too!
I hope you have all had a fantastic summer holiday and I hope you enjoy catching up with all your friends at school.

See you soon,

Donny Dog
